The Serbian Football Federation (FSS) has been linked to a significant data breach following an incident in April. Reports indicate that the federation received a letter demanding that certain personal data remain confidential. When no response was provided regarding the publication status of this information, the personal data of thousands of people subsequently appeared on the dark web.
The leaked files included sensitive information pertaining to several high-profile athletes. Among the individuals identified were several prominent figures in European and American basketball. These included Vasilije Micić, who previously played for Kaunas’ Žalgiris and currently represents the Tel Aviv Hapoel.
Nikola Milutinović, a notable player for Olympiacos from Piraeus, and Vanja Marinković, associated with Belgrade’s Partizan team, were among those whose details were exposed. Furthermore, Bogdan Bogdanović, who plays for the NBA’s Houston Rockets, was also named in the compromised records. The source of the data theft has been traced to the “Srbija LUX” hotel, a four-star establishment located in the Serbian town of Stara Pazova.
This location is known for hosting the Serbian national football and basketball teams annually. The incident highlights the vulnerability of personal data held by sports organizations and raises concerns about the security protocols surrounding athletes and associated personnel.
