On the evening of April 11, 2021, an altercation occurred within the Third Sector of Pravieniškių Prison, resulting in a severe assault on one inmate. According to case data, five convicts attacked another victim inside the correctional facility. The assault involved beatings using various objects, including metal rods, wooden boards, and chairs.
The resulting injuries to the victim were significant, including a fractured left cheekbone, bleeding beneath the brain membranes, a broken elbow bone, and numerous bruises and lacerations. The violence also led to an incident where a prison guard was assaulted. Following the attack, the injured victim was transported to the Kaunas clinic, where he required surgery and a prolonged period of medical treatment.
During court proceedings, the victim stated that he feared for his life during the assault. However, the court’s ruling did not find direct intent to kill on the part of the accused. Instead, the court qualified the actions of the five individuals based on the actual consequences of their assault, classifying the resulting harm as minor injury and slight health impairment.
