The Social Democrats are expected to form the next government. Regarding the specifics of ministerial appointments, the leader of the Social Democratic party told LRT Radio on Monday that definitive answers are anticipated by the close of the week. Previously, reports indicated that the coalition’s composition could lead to significant adjustments in the roles held by several ministers appointed by the Social Democrats.
Among those potentially affected are key figures such as Finance Minister Kristupas Vaitiekūnas, Interior Minister Vladislav Kondratovič, Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys, and Culture Minister Vaida Aleknavičienė. Addressing the matter, the chairman of the LSDP stated that he does not anticipate implementing sweeping overhauls. However, he acknowledged that certain adjustments remain possible.
“I won’t hide it—there will be changes,” he noted, referencing reports and headlines that suggest internal shifts are necessary. The necessity of these changes suggests a period of political realignment within the ruling coalition. While the party leadership aims to project stability, the uncertainty surrounding the portfolios of several key ministers indicates that the transition into the new administration will involve notable restructuring.
The focus remains on whether these anticipated changes will impact the core policies championed by the social wing of the government.
