The inspection of the Radviliškis shelter by the VMVT shocked: 33 registered cats disappeared

During a recent inspection, the head of the Šiauliai District Supervisory Office, Daiva Kazlauskienė, stated that the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development encountered significant deficiencies regarding the animal care facility’s records. Specifically, the facility’s head was unable to provide accurate data concerning the animals currently listed in the official register. A major discrepancy noted during the inspection involved the timeline of the animals’ presence.

The caretaker reported that the cats in question were believed to have escaped during the summer of 2025. However, the official records indicated that these animals were not registered at the shelter until 2026. This discrepancy suggests that while the animals may have been admitted, proper accounting or continuous care protocols were not maintained.

Furthermore, the caretaker could not provide reasonable data regarding the current whereabouts of the animals, nor was there any documented information confirming that search efforts had been undertaken. The supervisory office expressed that this situation raises serious questions regarding the accountability for the welfare of the animals under the facility’s care. Additionally, the service observed that the institution failed to proactively inform authorities about ongoing reconstruction works within the premises, nor was there any complete documentation detailing these necessary construction activities.

These findings highlight several areas where the facility’s adherence to proper record-keeping and operational transparency requires immediate attention.
