A 31-year-old resident of Kaunas district is being sent to court for an accident in which two young siblings died

A fatal automobile accident occurred on the morning of January 2nd on the Antakalnis-Jiezno-Alytus-Merkinė road, resulting in multiple fatalities. The incident involved a vehicle driven by a woman that reportedly crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with a BMW traveling in the opposite direction. Tragically, the accident claimed the lives of two young boys, in addition to the driver of the initial vehicle and two passengers in the BMW.

According to data gathered during the preliminary investigation, authorities believe the accident was directly attributable to the actions of the driver of the Volvo. Investigators suggest that the driver failed to adhere to safe driving practices. Specific contributing factors identified include allegedly disregarding prevailing weather conditions, failing to maintain a proper distance from the right side of the carriageway, and operating the vehicle at an unsafe speed.

Furthermore, the investigation points to a failure in vehicle control, which resulted in the car entering the opposing lane. The preliminary findings underscore that the sequence of events leading to this severe accident was multifaceted. The loss of life, particularly involving two young individuals, has prompted a formal inquiry into driver conduct and road safety protocols.

The investigation continues to review all evidence to establish the full scope of responsibility related to the collision.
