He cautioned that this disparity presents a potential strategic risk and a temptation for external powers. He specifically directed that European national parliaments must question their respective governments regarding the lack of industrial expansion within the defense sector, despite increased budgetary allocations for the area.
To illustrate the potential scale of necessary industrial mobilization, he cited Ukraine’s defense production, which, as of 2022, had increased its volume by a factor of fifty, reaching an estimated 50 billion euros. Ultimately, the message was a call for decisive, coordinated action. European political bodies must take ownership of shaping a robust, self-sufficient European defense posture, ensuring that the collective security interests of the continent are prioritized and effectively managed.
