On July 9, at 11:13 a.m., the Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department responded to an incident in the Butačiai village within the Eržvilkas district. Firefighters were alerted that a military vehicle had driven into a ditch, resulting in the spillage of an estimated 100 liters of diesel fuel. Upon arrival, emergency personnel reported that approximately 40 liters of the diesel fuel had already entered the ditch and were successfully contained and collected in specialized containers.
Furthermore, cleanup efforts involved excavating and collecting about 50 kg of soil contaminated by the spill, which was subsequently placed into sealed sacks. The affected road surface was thoroughly cleaned following the incident. Authorities confirmed that the scene was secured, and all necessary measures were taken to manage the environmental impact of the fuel spill.
The incident is currently under official investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the accident involving the military vehicle.
