A resident of Šakiai lost 15,000 euros – he gave the bank card to crooks himself

According to reports from the Marijampolė District Police, an incident involving alleged fraud was reported on July 11 at 1:06 a.m. A local man, born in 1957, contacted authorities to report the event. He stated that on the evening of July 10, around 8:00 p.m., while at his residence in Šakiai, he was approached by unknown individuals speaking Russian.

These individuals falsely identified themselves as representatives from Google, alongside bank employees and police officers. Through deceptive calling tactics, the group managed to extort a sum of 15,000 euros. The mechanism of the theft involved the man handing his bank card to an unknown man who subsequently visited the house, from which the funds were withdrawn.

Authorities have since taken action, confirming that an initial investigation into the alleged fraudulent activity has been launched. The police are investigating the details surrounding the reported deception to determine the full scope of the crime.
