Border guards recovered a significant quantity of untaxed cigarettes during an investigation into the illicit trade of excise-taxable goods. The seizure took place involving a car and a salon, according to reports from the VSAT Border Guard District of Pagėgiai. Authorities found a total of 6,720 packs of cigarettes.
The contraband included 3,360 packs of specific brands—Marlboro Gold Original, Marlboro Platinum Selected Fine Tobaccos, and Winston Blue American Flavor—which lacked excise stamps. Additionally, the guards recovered 3,360 packs featuring Belarusian banners, identified as Minsk Capital, NZ Gold, and Minsk Superslims 5. When factoring in all applicable taxes due in Lithuania, the total estimated value of the seized cigarettes reached 17,847.60 euros.
The investigation into the illegal disposal of these goods was initiated by the Pagėgiai Border Guard District. Officers from the district are managing the operation, with the prosecutor’s office in Kaunas leading the overall inquiry. The discovery highlights ongoing efforts by border security agencies to combat smuggling and ensure proper taxation of tobacco products entering the country.
