The Panevėžys Regional Police Office reported that on Thursday morning, an incident involving the theft of fuel and equipment occurred in Būginių village, located in the Biržų district. The initial report, filed by a local employee, detailed multiple instances of machinery from which diesel fuel was illicitly removed. The investigation focused on three pieces of heavy equipment.
From a crawler excavator, identified as a “Cat 320GC,” an attempt was made to steal the fuel tank, resulting in damage to the tank’s bolt. Additionally, authorities confirmed that about 250 liters of diesel fuel were stolen from this machine. Further losses were recorded from other assets: about 100 liters of diesel fuel were stolen from a “Terex AC50-1” automobile crane, and about 70 liters were taken from a “Man 26-400” lifting platform.
In each case, the theft involved unscrewing the fuel tank bolts to access the fuel. The total financial loss attributed to the company as a result of these thefts is estimated to be about 756 euros. Following the discovery, the police initiated a preliminary investigation into the matter.
Officers from the Biržų district police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the theft of the fuel and the damage sustained to the machinery. The authorities are continuing efforts to determine the perpetrators responsible for the stolen materials.
