Advocate R. Jurka after the tragic BMW accident: “The training of young drivers turned into a business” (4)

A traffic accident occurred in Vilnius last Saturday, around 4:20 a.m., on Žirmūnų street. The incident involved a BMW 530 driven by a woman born in 2007. Following the collision, the vehicle struck a street light pole.

Two individuals present—the driver and a male passenger—were reported to have either died or sustained severe injuries. Authorities suspect that the BMW may have been involved in high-speed maneuvers on the street, potentially racing with another vehicle. Following the accident, the driver reportedly exited the vehicle independently and was found to have a blood alcohol level of 0.58 promiles, indicating intoxication.

It was noted that the 19-year-old driver had obtained her license in May and had previously been cited for a traffic rule violation. Adding to the details surrounding the event, a public testimony surfaced concerning a separate incident involving the driver approximately one month prior. This testimony alleged that the BMW driver had failed to stop at a designated location (STO) during that earlier occurrence.

The investigation into the severity of the accident and the contributing factors remains ongoing. The details surrounding the vehicle’s operation and the circumstances leading to the crash on the street are currently under review by local authorities.
