Rescuers discovered hundreds of Chihuahua dogs and twelve cats in the outbuildings of a Rutherford County home, a situation that surprised even experienced experts. The animals were reportedly living in completely uncontrolled conditions. According to Tim Woodward, executive director of ARC, the state of the animals indicated they were in a crisis from the outset.
Woodward stated that the immediate priority was the swift evacuation of the most vulnerable animals, while simultaneously ensuring the safe and humane rescue of the remaining pets. Michael Cunningham, the rescue coordinator who received the initial report, was informed that the elderly couple residing at the property had significant health issues and that their relatives were urgently arranging for them to relocate. Initially, the family had anticipated finding only a small number of pets.
However, the scale of the situation proved to be far greater. The sheer number of animals found presented significant challenges for the rescue teams. The focus of the effort remained on managing the crisis while ensuring the welfare of all the animals discovered by the rescuers.
