On Wednesday morning, law enforcement officers from the Criminal Intelligence Department of the Police of Ukmergė initiated an operation following intelligence received from the Border Guard of Vilnius. The operation focused on a specific vehicle located within the Ukmergė district, near the village of Pageležiai. The police initially intercepted a Toyota Proace bearing Latvian license plates.
However, the vehicle’s single-door driver initially failed to comply with requests to stop, accelerating and proceeding toward Kaunas. The pursuit continued until the vehicle was ultimately halted after the road was blocked by a service vehicle. Upon inspection, it was determined that the vehicle was being operated by a 28-year-old Romanian citizen, who was accompanied by a 25-year-old Spanish citizen.
When the side doors of the vehicle were opened, officers discovered several additional individuals of various nationalities inside. A significant finding during the investigation was that none of the occupants could produce any form of identification or citizenship documentation. The incident highlights the police department’s response to reports suggesting unusual activity in the area.
The successful stop of the Toyota and the discovery of multiple undocumented persons underscore the vigilance of the local police force in monitoring border security and public safety within the district.
