Vilnius border guard officers conducted document checks on passengers who arrived at the capital airport on Wednesday afternoon. During these routine inspections, authorities identified a 36-year-old Lithuanian man who was wanted by Lithuanian authorities for alleged local law violations. The search for the individual had been initiated by the Kaunas police in November 2025.
The border guards successfully apprehended the man at the border crossing. Following the arrest, the officers notified the party who had initiated the search and subsequently transferred custody of the man to a police convoy that arrived at the airport less than an hour later. This incident is part of a larger operational trend reported by the VSAT.
Throughout the current year, VSAT officers have detained a total of 259 individuals, with 211 of those apprehensions occurring at airports. These detentions involved various offenses or crimes sought by both Lithuanian and foreign law enforcement agencies. The vast majority of the detained individuals, numbering 240, were apprehended during these rigorous checks, underscoring the border guards’ active role in law enforcement efforts.
