Authorities reported that six people were trapped inside an elevator and were experiencing dwindling air supply. According to the Kaunas Fire Department, emergency measures were implemented to resolve the situation. Responders utilized a crowbar to gain access to the elevator door and introduced fresh air.
Subsequently, emergency lifts arrived on the scene, and the lift operator was able to open the unit, safely freeing all the people involved. A second, similar event was recorded later that night, at approximately 12:47 AM. This incident took place at the “Akropolis” shopping center.
A man reported that he had become stuck within the facility’s cargo elevator. Reports indicated that the elevator had been overloaded with people. Despite the circumstances, the man managed to descend to the ground floor level and exited the trapped elevator.
These incidents underscore the potential dangers associated with malfunctioning or overcapacity elevators. Authorities continue to monitor public transport infrastructure in Kaunas to ensure the safety of the people utilizing these vertical transport systems.
