Multiple safety incidents involving both fire and water have occurred over the weekend, resulting in injuries and fatalities. While rescue efforts successfully saved several individuals, the weekend also saw tragic losses in accidents involving water. Regarding structural safety, two separate fires were reported.
On Friday afternoon, a fire broke out in a multi-apartment building on Parko street in Vilnius. Firefighters responded to smoke emanating from an individual apartment, where burning rubbish and a sofa were present. The blaze caused significant damage, including soaking a room, burning the corridor ceiling, and breaking two windows.
Authorities noted the absence of a smoke detector within the affected unit. One person was rescued, and one person sustained injuries during the incident. A second fire occurred the following day, Saturday, at 04:06 in Kėdainiai, on Biochemikų street.
At the premises of the company “Natural Fiber,” a mixture composed of straw rolls, peat, and sawdust was burning. Separately, reports indicated that while two individuals were rescued from water over the weekend, the incidents sadly highlighted the dangers associated with water safety, leading to the deaths of a child and a man. These events underscore the need for caution.
Authorities are advising the public against reckless diving, regardless of favorable weather conditions. Firefighters are reportedly implementing updated safety plans following these recent events.
