Audronė, who takes care of four children, and her husband: the invitation to provide children’s homes was like a sign

The annual Children’s Care Week is scheduled to take place across all Lithuanian municipalities from June 22 to June 28. This initiative is organized by the “Children are children” project, managed by the Network of Child Welfare Centers. The week aims to educate the public about the role and realities of guardianship.

Participants will gain insight into the decision-making process behind choosing to become a guardian. Furthermore, the program addresses the specialized emotional support required for children who have experienced the loss of parental care. A core focus is dedicated to dispelling persistent myths surrounding foster care and providing a comprehensive definition of what guardianship entails for those involved.

The commitment to guardianship is a profound life decision for adults. One featured speaker, A. Būtienė, shared a personal account that illustrates the journey.

She recalled a significant Christmas evening in 2018 when her family—including her husband and five children—was gathered, with only her youngest, a 14-year-old son, remaining at home. The discussions during the week extend to critical societal questions, including an open dialogue about the influence that recurring needs for child protection can have on a child’s development. These sessions provide vital resources for families and caregivers, emphasizing the multifaceted nature of care.

The week serves as a crucial platform for the community to better understand the complex network of support available for vulnerable children, offering clarity on the responsibilities inherent in providing long-term care.
