Fishermen and businessmen will not like it – strengthened raids begin

Environmental officers are scheduled to conduct inspections of local fishing operations from August 3 through August 16. Throughout this period, authorities will assess compliance with established maritime regulations. The inspection scope is comprehensive, focusing on several key areas.

Officers will verify the proper maintenance and completion of all required fishing logbooks, checking whether recorded catches meet specified quotas and standards. Furthermore, the gear utilized by the fishermen will be inspected, and adherence to the established fishing regime will be closely monitored. Special attention will be paid to operations conducted during dark hours, ensuring that nets are set and retrieved within the prescribed timeframes.

Following the initial inspection period, specific restrictions remain in place for the remainder of the month. From August 16 through August 31, fishing utilizing nets with a mesh size between 70-80 mm, when paired with a rod, will only be permissible during dark hours. Separately, the authorities have provided updates regarding financial support for the sector.

Fishermen are advised that compensation payments are slated to begin this year, with specific guidelines detailing the conditions under which these payments will be disbursed. These measures aim to ensure sustainable practices while providing necessary financial clarity to the fishing community throughout August and beyond.
