Following discussions with the Ministry of Energy, the electric utility has announced a compensation measure for private customers who experienced extended outages following a recent storm. Recognizing the significant inconvenience and additional expenses resulting from the large-scale and prolonged disruption of power, the company has implemented a compensation program. According to ESO’s public relations officer, Rasa Juodkienė, the compensation will address direct losses incurred by customers whose power supply was not fully restored within a 72-hour period.
To ensure that assistance reaches the affected population quickly and efficiently, the application process has been significantly simplified. The utility stated that it will assess the actual difficulties and losses faced by the customers to determine appropriate compensation levels. ESO representatives confirmed that these payouts will be funded using the company’s existing profits.
This funding structure ensures that the compensation will not impact current customer tariffs or reduce the capital allocated for essential network modernization and infrastructure resilience improvements. The recent storm highlighted the vulnerability of the existing infrastructure, prompting this review of customer support mechanisms. The goal of the revised process is to provide immediate relief while maintaining financial stability for future upgrades.
By streamlining the application procedures, ESO aims to minimize administrative burdens for both the company and the affected consumers, thereby facilitating a swift return to normal service levels across the region.
