RRT council member Darius Kuliešius reported an improvement in the status of base station operations during a statement to LRT radio on Wednesday. He noted that the overall trend indicates a reduction in the number of non-operational stations. According to data provided Tuesday evening, more than half of the approximately 550 base stations that were previously non-operational have since been fully restored.
Despite the progress in bringing infrastructure back online, Kuliešius indicated that around 50,000 users currently report either having no service connection or experiencing insufficient connection quality. He explained that when a station is restored, the connection provided to some users may originate from a neighboring site, which could result in service quality that is not optimal. The scale of the recent disruption was attributed to a large-scale storm that impacted the region over the weekend.
During that period, several hundred base stations ceased functioning, leading to a widespread loss of connection across the affected geographical area. Kuliešius emphasized that the current efforts are focused on ensuring that all necessary components are fully restored to stabilize service. The council member stressed that while progress is being made, maintaining consistent and high-quality connection service remains a primary operational focus for the utility.
