G. Kasparovas warned about V. Putin’s intentions: cornered, he does one move

Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna has stated that ongoing attacks by Ukraine targeting Russian military logistics and energy infrastructure have successfully weakened Russia. According to Tsahkna, Kyiv hopes that this demonstrable degradation of Russian capabilities will translate into a strategic advantage during future negotiations. However, Grandmaster Garry Kasparov offered a more cautious assessment, arguing that escalating pressure is more likely to intensify the conflict rather than facilitate a path toward compromise.

Kasparov suggested that if a settlement is reached without significant concessions from Russia, it would merely provide Moscow with time to reorganize and regroup until a potential escalation from Vladimir Putin. In response to the escalating tensions, Europe is reportedly strengthening its support for Ukraine, including the announcement of a new defense program. Kasparov cautioned that history suggests Putin tends toward escalation when feeling challenged.

He noted that the most probable immediate development is further provocation. The differing viewpoints underscore the current geopolitical tension surrounding the conflict. While some observers view the successful attacks as a source of leverage for Ukraine, others caution that continued pressure risks drawing the situation further away from diplomatic resolution.

The focus remains on how international efforts are shaping the diplomatic environment surrounding the conflict in Ukraine.
