Jankūnas to meet with representatives of the People’s Republic of China’s mission to the EU from September 7th to 9th. The projected expenses for this diplomatic mission were calculated to be nearly 1,382 euros. Nevertheless, the Seimas leadership subsequently reached a consensus decision opting against the temporary group, established for “For the normalization of diplomatic relations with China up to the level of the Member States of the European Union,” representing the parliament at these meetings.
The decision prompted immediate opposition. Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, among those who initially objected to the trip, stated that she would not support specific aspects of the proposed visit. Additionally, M.
Maldeikis voiced disagreement with I. Vėgėlė’s arguments regarding China relations, asserting that conflict in the area seems unavoidable. These statements highlight a division within the legislative body regarding the diplomatic approach to China.
