According to Roberto Bermúdez de Castro, the Aragon region government member responsible for security issues, the situation presented a very challenging scenario. He reported to the media that the burnt area was estimated to exceed 12,000 hectares. Spain is currently managing the aftermath of significant wildfire activity, following a devastating incident in the southern region of Andalusia last week.
That prior disaster resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, including seven British nationals and one American citizen, and destroyed approximately 7,000 hectares of land. The scale of the recent events marks one of the most destructive natural disasters of this type in the country’s recent history. The response efforts in Aragon have been extensive.
Over 450 firefighters were deployed to combat the rapidly spreading fire across the sparsely populated region. The severity of the blaze made operations particularly difficult, especially during the night hours. Authorities confirmed that five small villages were evacuated as a precautionary measure due to the intensity of the fire.
The ongoing efforts are focused on containing the remaining flames and assessing the full ecological impact of the extensive burn area.
