The championship tournament, a premier event in karate, was first held a year ago. This exclusive, top-level commercial competition offers substantial prizes, with the champion receiving 10 million Japanese yen, the vice-champion earning 2 million yen, and the third-place winner receiving 600,000 yen. Participation is limited, with only nine male and eight female athletes invited to the event.
In 2025, Lithuania was represented in Tokyo by two world champions, Brigita Gustaityte and Eventas Gužauskas. Both athletes reached the finals and returned with vice-champion’s cups, marking a successful showing for the nation. This year, the representation from Lithuania expanded to four athletes invited to the prestigious tournament.
Alongside the European champions, B. Gustaityte and E. Gužauskas, the delegation included Aneta Meškauskienė and Paulius Žimantas.
These four athletes traveled to the Land of the Rising Sun to compete in the high-stakes karate competition.
