The Kaunas Fire and Rescue Department reported an incident that occurred around 20:20 involving the Baltų prospektas apartment building. Authorities were alerted regarding residents trapped within the building’s elevator and the presence of a strong smell of smoke. Rescuers successfully freed the occupants, requiring the use of tools, such as crowbars, to open the elevator door.

One of the individuals who was trapped, a minor, was subsequently taken to emergency medical services. The girl was assessed for symptoms related to smoke inhalation, specifically reporting a headache. For a more thorough examination and condition assessment, she was transported to a hospital.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the fire using approximately 300 liters of water. The smell of soot was particularly noticeable when the exit door to the roof was opened, prompting the ventilation of the stairwell. Following the initial efforts, the emergency lifts service arrived on the scene.

Their inspection revealed that the elevator motor had sustained burn damage. Consequently, the elevator was secured and cordoned off with caution tape.
