Statistics compiled by medical professionals indicate that inadequate water intake was identified as a major contributor to various health issues. A significant portion of the patients presenting to doctors were experiencing health problems linked to elevated temperatures. Specifically, up to 30% of patients sought care due to dehydration, exhaustion resulting from fluid loss, or complications related to intense heat, with two instances of heat stroke diagnosed.
Beyond these heat-related ailments, the medical teams also treated several other conditions. Assistance was provided to four patients who sustained stings from bees. Additionally, doctors attended to four patients involved in drowning incidents, one individual with injuries sustained after submersion, and several others presenting with various types of injuries.
In response to the volume of cases, doctors at KUL issued public reminders emphasizing the importance of consistent hydration. They stressed that feelings of thirst are already indicators of dehydration, necessitating regular water consumption throughout the day. Furthermore, the advice highlighted caution during the hottest hours, typically between 11:00 and 16:00.
During this peak heat period, individuals are advised to avoid strenuous physical activity and to seek shelter in shaded or open areas to mitigate risks.
