Lithuania has a new government: M. Sinkevičius and his ministers have sworn in(1)

President Gitanas Nausėda officially signed the decree on July 6th, appointing M. Sinkevičius to a ministerial role. This appointment follows the formal approval of the comprehensive government program, which was presented to the Seimas last week and subsequently ratified by parliamentarians on Tuesday.

The formation of this new government marks a significant restructuring of key state portfolios. Several changes have been implemented across the cabinet. Taurimas Valys, who previously served as the Foreign Minister, has been designated as the new Finance Minister.

For the Environment Ministry, Ieva Andriulaitytė, representing the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities in Brussels, has taken the helm. In the cultural sector, Lukas Alsys, formerly the Chancellor of the Ministry of Culture, will assume the role of Culture Minister. Additionally, Martynas Katelynas, a sitting parliamentarian, has been appointed as the Minister of Internal Affairs.

Other ministerial positions retain continuity. Robertas Kaunas will continue to lead the Ministry of Defense, while Raminta Popovienė will oversee the Ministry of Education and Science and Sport. Kęstutis Budrys is set to manage the Ministry of Transport, Communications and the Interior.

These appointments solidify the structure of the new administration as it moves forward with its mandated program objectives.
