A raccoon has become a noticeable presence in the forests of Mykolai, Žaslė, and Kazokiški, leading to documented damage to local beekeeping operations. Local reports indicate that the animal appears comfortable in the area, causing significant disruption to apiaries. A specific incident was recorded on August 22nd in the Sukrės forest, located between the villages of Bekštoniai and Kazokiški.
During this time, the raccoon was observed destroying two beehives. While observers noted that the animal behaved cautiously, the structural damage to the hives was evident. Furthermore, despite unpredictable weather conditions, the raccoon was documented removing five frames of honey from a beekeeping setup in Mykolai.
The pattern of activity suggests repeated incursions. Just six days prior to the recent incident, the raccoon was responsible for damaging another apiary in Dainavos village (Paparčiai old settlement), where it reportedly stayed for two consecutive nights. Moreover, documentation from approximately one month ago confirmed activity at a beekeeping site in Daučiuliškės (Vievio old settlement).
