LSDP in Nalšia’s northern district is raising R. Baranov’s candidacy for the Seimas

Social Democrat Indrė Kižienė confirmed the eligibility of a specific candidate to participate in single-member elections. Speaking to Eltas on Thursday, Kižienė addressed questions surrounding R. Baranov’s candidacy, which had been reported by the news portal “15min” concerning the northern Nalšia region.

Kižienė emphasized that Baranov’s participation does not constitute a “one-man-show,” clarifying that he is a candidate selected from an official party list. According to the politician, this status grants him the requisite right to compete in the single-member electoral process. When questioned about the criteria used for selecting candidates, Kižienė highlighted the importance of a candidate having roots connected to the area in question.

She stated that, to her knowledge, Baranov’s origins trace back to Ignalina or that adjacent locality. This connection to one’s homeland was cited as a key factor in the selection process. The confirmation provided by Kižienė clarifies the procedural basis for Baranov’s inclusion in the election cycle.

Her remarks underscore that while the candidate is nominated through a party list, adherence to local ties and community connection remains a significant consideration in the nomination process for Seimas elections.
