According to the head of the NKVC, V. Vitkauskas, during times of crisis, the focus should shift from assigning blame to proactive problem-solving. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Vitkauskas advised that engaging in widespread criticism is unproductive.
Instead, he emphasized that institutions should concentrate on identifying specific needs and applying for targeted support. Vitkauskas asserted that searching for culprits during a crisis is counterproductive, suggesting that the appropriate response involves concrete action rather than assigning fault. He stated that municipalities must clearly define the type of assistance they require.
To illustrate this point, he cited the Vilnius district municipality as a positive example of effective response. He noted that the effort to find fault often resembles a political process rather than a genuine attempt to resolve underlying issues. “It’s definitely not productive; it more looks like some kind of political process, and not a way to try to solve problems,” Vitkauskas stated.
He highlighted the cooperation demonstrated by certain local governments. Specifically, he praised the Vilnius district municipality for making a very clear request for necessary resources, such as water tanks and generators, which allowed for timely provision of aid. The underlying message conveyed by the NKVC representative is that effective crisis management depends on methodical planning and mutual support, rather than dwelling on blame.
