Latvian border authorities reported a significant interception of irregular crossings, as on Thursday, they denied entry to 64 foreigners. Meanwhile, the Polish border service stated that it recorded five such individuals on Wednesday. Examining trends across the region, officials noted a decrease in unauthorized entries from Belarus into Lithuania.
Last year, authorities prevented over 1,600 people from entering Lithuania from Belarus through irregular means, compared to 901 this year. Cumulatively, since the onset of the migration crisis linked to Belarus, a total of 25,500 irregular migrants have been prevented from entering the country. The influx of migrants into Eastern European nations began in 2021, an event which Western nations attributed to the regime in Minsk.
The State Border Guard Service (VSAT) has reported that the primary source of these unauthorized crossings involves migrants originating from Belarus. These border controls highlight ongoing efforts by regional security forces to manage and restrict illegal movement. The consistent reporting from various national border agencies underscores the ongoing challenges related to border security in the Baltic region concerning migrants from Belarus.
