Social media trends among young people: destroying other people’s property, risking their health

Intrusions into abandoned or vacant buildings pose significant risks, potentially leading not only to serious physical injuries but also to substantial financial losses. Modesta Acutė, Director of the Customer Service Department at the Asset Bank, has raised concerns regarding the motivations behind some of these unauthorized entries. According to Acutė, the actions observed are frequently linked to a desire for attention or display on social media platforms, rather than genuine needs for shelter or concealment.

She noted that these “deeds” are often being shared for social networking purposes. During the initial phase of development in the A. Goštauto quarter, a wreath was placed for a wedding ceremony, highlighting the varied and sometimes incongruous nature of activity in these areas.

Representatives from the Asset Bank indicated that determining the precise reasons for the repeated intrusions into these structures remains challenging. The expert commentary suggests a shift in behavior among certain segments of the population. The underlying motivation for some people entering these derelict sites appears to be more about creating content for their social profiles than actual necessity.

This suggests that the perceived risks to the people entering these sites are being weighed against the perceived rewards of social visibility. Authorities caution that the dangers present in these buildings are substantial, and these incursions are often not driven by survival needs, but by external social pressures.
