R. Kaunas: we find common ground with K. Budrys, but the prime minister should give more weight to the issue

Speaking at the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense (LMD) on Thursday, R. Kaunas addressed the media outlet Eltai regarding ongoing discussions concerning K. Budrys.

Kaunas stated that, following his interactions, he and Budrys manage to find common ground. While acknowledging that he is not the definitive assessor of Budrys’s work, he emphasized that despite their communication, they have reached an agreement on several matters. Kaunas noted that the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) board is scheduled to meet on Friday for further deliberation.

He added that he would be unable to attend the council meeting himself due to his existing work commitments. He elaborated that although the topics discussed at the ministerial level vary, they share underlying similarities. Specifically, Kaunas indicated that while he finds agreement with Kęstutis, his professional scope does not entirely overlap with Budrys’s area of expertise.

Consequently, he advised that K. Budrys should direct greater priority toward the Prime Minister’s office. This statement follows reports from the news portal lrt.lt, which had covered that the LSDP council, scheduled to meet on Saturday, might vote to alter the position of the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The remarks by Kaunas underscore the ongoing coordination efforts within the political sphere as various parties continue to communicate and establish departmental alignments.
