Beginning September 1st, residents of Kaunas will have access to new pricing structures for single-ride public transport tickets. The City of Kaunas announced that purchasing an electronic single-ride ticket using a contactless bank card will be eligible for significant discounts of 50% and 80%. These new rates are structured to align with the existing single discount ticket rates currently available to drivers, which stand at 0.75 EUR and 0.30 EUR, respectively, inclusive of VAT.
To utilize this new discount mechanism, riders must first link their electronic ticket to the official Kaunas public transport electronic ticket system. This linkage process must be completed only once and can be managed online through the designated self-service portal at self-service.kaunoziogas.lt. The procedure requires the citizen to input their bank card details and explicitly select the transport discount option within the system.
Upon confirmation, the applicable discount will be automatically applied to the account. This update streamlines the process for obtaining reduced fares for public transit users throughout Kaunas. The implementation aims to provide a more accessible and convenient method for accessing discounted travel rates using modern electronic payment methods.
