Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis stated that while the provision of symbolic baby bags is not anticipated to raise the birth rate, it will at least allow parents to afford additional resources. He noted that the bags help families afford items for relaxation, pampering, and enjoyment for the new Kaunas resident. Since the initiative commenced in 2020 through the end of last year, Kaunas has distributed a total of 10,958 baby bags to families welcoming newborns.
This year, the gift was provided to 724 families. Each convenient handbag contains a starter set of essential items for a new baby. These supplies include a smock, a crawler, pants and shirts, a hat, a seal, two jumpsuits, mouthwash, a set of baby care products, a cotton blanket, a towel with a hood, a bath thermometer, and a development pad.
The distribution of these kits aims to support new parents with necessary provisions. The contents are designed to offer immediate utility for the care of a baby, thereby providing a tangible benefit to families in the Kaunas community. The support package ensures that parents have access to various items, allowing them to better manage the expenses associated with welcoming a baby more comfortably.
