The local municipality has compiled a preliminary inventory detailing nearly 100 undeveloped and potentially abandoned land plots. This initiative was undertaken to address underutilized properties within the district. The owners of these identified plots have been personally notified regarding their inclusion on the preliminary list.
A specific window of thirty calendar days has been granted to the property owners. During this period, they have the option to submit a formal request to have their land removed from the list. To qualify for removal, the owners must provide verifiable evidence demonstrating that the territory does not meet the established criteria for abandonment, or they must present objective reasons explaining why the land cannot currently be restored to use.
According to Levutė Staniuvienė, Director of the Skuodo district administration, the implementation of such a stringent measure is unprecedented for the area. She noted that this action is directly correlated with a significant increase in the standard land tax rate, which is rising from 1% to 4%. Staniuvienė stated that this represents the administration’s first attempt to manage neglected properties.
The stated objective of the increased taxation and the resulting administrative measures is to incentivize property owners to actively manage and maintain their holdings.
