The case of the FSB official accused of spying for the Russian Federation has been transferred to the court

The preliminary investigation was spearheaded by the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Klaipėda District Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Corruption Investigation Department. The inquiry was overseen by prosecutor Ruslan Ušinsk and involved personnel from the Criminal Police Organized Crime Investigation Department of the Klaipėda County Police Department, in collaboration with the State Security Department. According to the findings of this preliminary probe, the investigation uncovered that between 2014 and 2020, the individual under investigation was responsible for organizing and coordinating a group.

This group was allegedly tasked with gathering sensitive intelligence concerning several critical areas. The collected information reportedly covered assets deemed strategically important to national security, the internal operations of state institutions, details regarding the border protection system, documentation of public proceedings, and data pertaining to individuals involved in various public events. The investigation highlighted the scope of the alleged espionage activities.

Further context was provided by T. Gailius, a former officer with the VSD, who stated that a thorough search for Russian espionage elements must be conducted within the nation’s most vital institutions. The authorities are continuing their work to process the evidence gathered by the various departments involved in the comprehensive investigation.
