The flower that blooms in Lithuanian kindergartens is a wonder: it promotes wound healing, reduces itching and improves digestion

The meadow marigold, a plant familiar in Lithuanian culture, possesses several notable medicinal compounds. During an appearance on the television program “Sveikatos kodas,” pharmacist Giedrė Tautkevičienė highlighted that the plant contains flavonoids, substances known to reduce inflammatory processes and function as antioxidants. She further noted that the marigold exhibits antibacterial properties, which can help protect against wound infections.

Professor Nijolė Savickienė corroborated these findings, pointing out the presence of significant amounts of beta-carotene within the marigold. This compound is responsible for the characteristic yellow or orange coloration of the flowers. Regarding the plant’s benefits, Professor Savickienė emphasized that the antioxidant qualities are derived from lutein, lycopene, flavoxanthin, and other carotenoids.

Collectively, these components suggest a range of therapeutic applications for the meadow marigold. Experts mentioned that the plant is traditionally recognized as an herbal remedy beneficial for promoting wound healing. The discussion underscored the chemical composition of the flower, detailing the various nutrients contained within it.

The accumulated knowledge suggests that the marigold is valued for the biochemical properties of its pigments and flavonoids, making it a subject of ongoing interest in natural medicine.
