The municipality has officially assumed ownership of a civil engineering structure located at Kazlų Rūda, on Skvero street. This asset is a designated freight platform measuring 1.19 thousand square meters, which carries a recorded residual value of 0.29 euros. According to documentation provided by the Government Chancellery, the facility has not been utilized for railway transport purposes since 2015.
The cessation of railway operations at the site is attributed to infrastructure development related to the “Rail Baltica” project. Specifically, the construction of a noise-absorbing wall separated the platform area from the main railway infrastructure. This physical separation rendered the site incapable of supporting railway transport services.
Furthermore, it was noted at the time that LTG Infra had successfully established alternative locations to manage necessary loading and freight services. This transfer of ownership by the local government signifies a change in the asset’s administrative status, even though its primary function as a railway hub has been discontinued. The documentation confirms that the decision to transfer the property is based on its current non-operational status within the national rail network.
The acquisition by the municipality formalizes the municipality’s control over the physical structure, despite the infrastructure changes mandated by the larger governmental development plans.
