The leader of the Democrats does not rule out taking the minister’s job: this is an open question

During an interview with LRT radio on Monday, V. Sinkevičius addressed speculation regarding his potential return from Brussels to serve as a cabinet minister in Vilnius. When questioned about his immediate plans, Sinkevičius stated that the political landscape presented several unknowns.

He characterized the situation as an open question, noting that the ultimate priorities and the required level of governmental load would depend entirely on future developments. The comments followed a significant political development: on Saturday, the LSDP council voted to alter the governing majority. This decision involved removing “Nemuno aušra” from the coalition structure and initiating consultations with the Democratic Union “For the sake of Lithuania.”

In light of this shift in political alliances, Sinkevičius offered cautious commentary on the future leadership roles.

He explicitly stated that he could not guarantee that K. Budrys would retain the position of Foreign Minister following the realignment of the governing majority. Furthermore, he suggested that the individual appointed as the new head of diplomacy might originate from the interim leadership of the Democratic Union “For the sake of Lithuania,” should that party ultimately form the new administration.

The statements underscore a period of considerable political flux within Lithuania’s governing structure. Sinkevičius’s remarks emphasize that any confirmation regarding ministerial appointments, including the role of Foreign Minister, remains contingent on the final composition and mandates of the newly formed government.
