Deep Learning (DL) processors and smartphones utilize distinct types of memory, yet their manufacturing process relies on the same facilities and is dominated by the same three primary corporations. This shared production ecosystem means that while the final products differ, the underlying manufacturing capability is interconnected. According to Giedrius Senkus, Director of Purchasing and Wholesale Customers at Bitė Lietuva, generating one gigabyte of memory for AI systems requires approximately three times the production capacity needed for conventional DRAM memory.

This escalating demand has significantly impacted market allocation, with the AI sector currently consuming an estimated 35% to 40% of the global DRAM production capacity. The heightened demand is driven by major technology industry players, including Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and Meta. These large entities place massive orders for components essential for AI development.

Consequently, memory manufacturers are increasingly dedicating their resources and capacity to meet this accelerating demand. The confluence of these factors means that the trajectory of memory production is heavily influenced by artificial intelligence requirements. The necessity of scaling up the production of specialized memory components to support advanced AI models is reshaping the operational focus of the entire semiconductor manufacturing sector.

The shared nature of the production infrastructure, combined with the exponential growth in AI processing needs, solidifies the central role of advanced memory technology in future technological development.
