The minister about the shortage of patient transportation services: this is a consequence of the centralized process

During a session at the Seimas on Thursday, a minister addressed the findings of an audit conducted on the GMPT (Emergency Medical Service – ELTA), following the review of a report submitted by the VK. The minister stated that the audit revealed issues with the current pricing and findings, characterizing them as problematic results stemming from a centralized process. While acknowledging that some instances might represent isolated cases requiring examination of specific circumstances, the overall strategy involves a broader review.

The minister confirmed that efforts are underway to review the provision of ambulance services within the framework of the Emergency Medical Service, aligning with recommendations made by the VK. The audit provided specific financial data regarding the service’s operation. According to the findings, during the period spanning July through October 2025, the expense associated with administering patient transportation orders represented a significant portion of the service’s total funding.

Specifically, the cost for these administrative orders accounted for between 75% and 85% of all allocated funds for the service during that quarter. The detailed examination of these figures is intended to determine the root cause of the financial allocation structure. The review aims to assess whether the current system creates inefficiencies, viewing the financial outcomes as a direct consequence of the existing administrative process.

The government intends to use these findings to restructure and improve the operational framework of emergency medical transport services.
