The Ministry of Agriculture does not have funds, so it will borrow from another ministry to distribute among farmers

Since May 4th, farmers were eligible to apply for agricultural aid totaling 40 million euros. This initial allocation was structured to provide 25 million euros for farmers experiencing difficulties and 15 million euros for those facing immediate cash shortages. During a Government Hour in the Riigikogu on Tuesday, A.

Palionis announced an increase to this financial support package. Following an assessment of the application volume received in the first two and a half weeks, Palionis stated that an agreement was reached with the Ministry of Finance and ILTE to boost the total aid amount to 100 million euros. This revised funding package includes 60 million euros designated for low-interest loans, alongside 40 million euros allocated for direct cash support.

However, a caveat was raised regarding the funding source. The head of the Ministry of Agriculture confirmed that the institution had not budgeted for this measure. Consequently, the funds have been drawn from another Ministry’s budget, though Palionis did not specify which ministry provided the allocation.

The announcement details a significant governmental intervention aimed at bolstering the agricultural sector. While the immediate focus is on the disbursement of these millions of euros, the funding mechanism highlights inter-ministerial resource reallocation to support the farming community.
