The Speaker of the Seimas has directed the Committee on the Law and Order to collect supplementary information regarding recent events. During a statement to LRT television on Monday, J. Olekas addressed the situation, stating that the conduct of an individual appointed to a responsible position raises significant concern.
He emphasized that, while the situation is troubling, it is necessary to establish the specific facts before drawing conclusions. The focus of the inquiry involves allegations concerning L. Matjošaitytė, a legal expert and former chairwoman of the VRK.
According to reports published by Delfi portal, prior to the 2024 Seimas elections, Matjošaitytė reportedly advised Remigijus Žemaitis’s party, “Nemuno aušra,” on matters pertaining to the member’s taxation. Furthermore, she allegedly assisted the party in preparing a formal response addressed to the VRK. These actions have prompted questions regarding potential conflicts of interest involving the VRK member.
V. Sinkevičius commented on the procedural steps that might have been overlooked by Matjošaitytė. He noted that upon becoming a member of the VRK, she herself became associated with the body, yet reports suggest she claimed a lack of awareness regarding the specific details of the matter.
The ongoing investigation by the Seimas seeks to clarify the scope of her involvement and the nature of her advice provided to the political group.
