The VDU basketball team recently secured the title of European university champions following a successful run through a highly competitive tournament structure. The team began their campaign in the D group, where they compiled a record of three victories against one defeat, which came at the hands of the University of Lublin. The momentum carried into the elimination stages, where the VDU players demonstrated consistent performance.
Throughout the competition, the squad navigated several critical rounds. They advanced through the eighth round by defeating the University of Szechenyi of Hungary. Subsequently, in the fourth round, they secured a win against the University of Vasyl’s Stefanik from Ukraine.
Their path to the final included overcoming the University of Vienna from Austria in the semifinal round. The culmination of their effort was the final match, where the VDU team managed to defeat the University of Lublin in a decisive victory, avenging their earlier loss to the same institution. This championship title solidifies their status among top European university athletic programs.
As European champions, the VDU basketball players have also earned automatic qualification for the prestigious FISU World University 3×3 Basketball Tournament. This global event is scheduled to take place in Macau, China, from October 23rd to the 25th. The championship roster included players Miglė and Eglė Kisarauskaitės, Eva Pernavaitė, and others.
