The Washington Post: After the US decision – Putin is stuck in a deadlock(1)

Russian press spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Moscow views new agreements not as an escalation, but criticized Washington’s current path as a mistake. According to Peskov, increased military support directed toward Ukraine would not result in peace, but would instead compel Russia to expand its designated “buffer zone.” Despite these comments, Peskov reiterated that the Kremlin maintains an openness to a diplomatic resolution to the conflict and renewed calls for a phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump. Peskov noted that there is substantial agreement between the United States and Ukraine, identifying only one outstanding issue.

However, Moscow continues to reject Kyiv’s proposals for a personal meeting between the two presidents coupled with a complete ceasefire. In a separate development, during the NATO summit in Ankara, Donald Trump offered praise for Volodymyr Zelensky’s efforts, stating, “He did an amazing job” during their discussion. The remarks come as diplomatic efforts continue, with Peskov representing the official stance of the Kremlin regarding international negotiations involving Washington and Ukraine.
