The Central Project Management Agency (CPVA) has announced a supplementary funding call aimed at waste handlers seeking support for projects related to waste management. Applications for this initiative are accepted until August 17. The support allocated to a single applicant can reach up to 4 million euros.
In a statement, environment vice-minister Akvilė Gargasaitė stated that these investments are intended to tackle the escalating issue of textile waste and deficient waste management practices within the country. The primary objective is to stimulate investments that will enable Lithuania to generate new opportunities for transforming textile waste into valuable raw materials and finished products, thereby supporting the goals of a circular economy. According to the Ministry, the current infrastructure presents limitations in textile processing capabilities.
Currently, only a small number of companies possess the capacity to process textile waste into lower-value commodities, such as basic cloth. The supplementary funding call is designed to address this gap. By channeling significant capital toward waste handlers, the initiative seeks to modernize and expand the sector.
The focus remains on implementing comprehensive waste management strategies that move beyond simple disposal. This support aims to foster advanced technological solutions capable of handling complex streams of textile waste, thereby establishing a more robust and sustainable domestic supply chain for recycled materials.
