Three inspections of the inspector of intelligence were carried out last year: the focus was on the protection of human rights and freedoms

During a presentation before the Seimas on Thursday, N. Statkus delivered the 2025 year activity report for the Intelligence Controller Office. The report detailed the office’s efforts concerning the verification of various intelligence agencies.

Statkus reported that the office conducted a total of three verifications: one planned, one control, and one unplanned assessment. The first and most comprehensive verification involved assessing the legality of sanctioning intelligence actions conducted between 2022 and 2024. This area was identified as highly sensitive because it directly intersects with both national security requirements and fundamental human rights.

The review scope was broad, examining whether judicial processes were applied reasonably, determining the legitimacy and proportionality of requests, and confirming adherence to human rights standards. Furthermore, the process included a detailed analysis of personal data processing practices. This initial verification phase was successfully concluded by the Second Department of Operative Services (AOTD).

The primary finding from this extensive review was that no violations of the rights and freedoms of individuals were identified among the intelligence activities assessed. The report provided an overview of the office’s oversight role across these critical areas, confirming compliance standards across the examined operations.
