Urgently appealed to shoppers: you could have bought infected meat in these stores

Salmonella was found in fresh chicken breast meat sourced from Nematekos, specifically from a batch identified by the number L26221/BA. The contamination was discovered after the product’s stated shelf life expired on August 20th. According to Ernesta Vareikytė, head of the company’s media relations, the presence of Salmonella was identified during self-control testing conducted at the supplier, “Maxima International Sourcing.” Regarding the affected product, Vareikytė noted that because the shelf life had passed, the retailer’s stores had already removed the item from sale.

The investigation revealed that a total of 2,208 units of the contaminated fresh chicken breast meat were delivered to the stores. The company’s media relations head stated that this confirmed the expiration of the product’s shelf life. This incident follows previous reports concerning poultry safety.

Authorities have issued warnings to poultry farmers regarding dangerous diseases found in chicken carcasses. Furthermore, separate reports detail instances where inspectors discovered concerning conditions during routine visits to food establishments, including a bakery. The discovery of Salmonella in this specific batch of fresh meat highlights ongoing food safety monitoring within the supply chain.
