The news portal Lrytas is hosting the “Green Space 2026” competition, which solicits entries for notable public spaces developed in recent years across Lithuania. The initiative aims to recognize exemplary urban and natural areas, encompassing a wide variety of green infrastructure. Submissions are welcomed from parks, town squares, coastal zones, recreational areas, and other public spaces that have been established or revitalized through the collaborative efforts of local governments, community groups, or private businesses.
The competition has previously garnered significant attention. Last year, participation included contributions from 29 Lithuanian cities and towns, resulting in the submission of 53 distinct green areas. Among the recognized achievements from that year, the island park in Marijampolė, known as Marių park, was highlighted as a favorite among both the judging commission and the readership.
Furthermore, the projects located at Kulautuva and Dauniškio Lake in Utena were noted among the most highly regarded entries. For the current cycle, the scope of eligible submissions is broad, inviting projects that have been either newly created or significantly renovated within the last few years. This structure allows the competition to document the evolving landscape of urban sustainability and community investment in natural settings.
By gathering these submissions, “Green Space 2026” serves to showcase best practices in public realm design and the preservation of vital green assets across the country.
